Who am I?

My name is Laura Snijder. I was born and raised in Caracas, Venezuela. My journey into bilingualism started when I was a toddler, as I was placed at an international kindergarten. During my formative years, I always got excellent grades in English. Since then, I have spent a lot of time perfecting my language skills.
I went to a Catholic school for 8 years, where the teachers and nuns were quite strict about Spanish grammar, spelling and syntax. Those years had a strong influence on my future. I became fastidious about the proper use of the Spanish language, and I guess that's why I'm a translator today.

When I grew up, I earned a five-year degree in Liberal Arts at Universidad Metropolitana (UNIMET) and a Master's Degree in History at Universidad Católica Andrés Bello (UCAB). There I mastered my research skills. This can be quite valuable when it comes to finding the right translation for a given term.
In 2015 I started to receive formal training in translation studies. First I studied translation technology and then I moved on to specialise in Legal Translation. Today I can proudly call myself a specialist and professional translator.
I lived 26 years of my life in Caracas, my hometown. In 2017 I moved to Madrid to study a postgraduate course in Legal Translation (Especialista en Traducción Jurídica Inglés-Español) at Universidad Complutense de Madrid. In 2018 I married an Englishman, and the next year I moved to Belper, UK. So far, I have been immersed in three different cultures: Venezuelan, Spanish and English.
